Pleural Mesothelioma
Those that have been diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma have cancerous growth in tissue surrounding the lungs.
Localized and benign pleural mesothelioma is considered to not be life threatening and can be easily removed through surgery.
Those diagnosed with malignant pleural mesothelioma are generally given less than a year to live. Early symptoms may include chest pain, coughing, and shortness of breath. Usually patients are diagnosed through x-ray or CAT scan. Surgery may still be performed on malignant mesothelioma patients to improve quality of life. Fluid may build up and can be drained, or the tumor may be reduced to offer some relief to the patient for the remainder of their life.
